Hello!

Remember Ashley, my Girl Behind the Curl from last week?! Well, if you read her feature, you would have seen that she not only has her own blog, Urbane Natural, but also her own hair product line called Mahogany Queen! She was kind enough to send me a sample of one of her products! it’s the Mahogany Princess Hair Butter and you can find it on her site for $12 for an 8 oz. jar. My sample was about 2 oz and came it a cute little glass jar. I also love her logo and her tagline, ‘You are a Queen, so be one” :o) Very inspiring and uplifting!

Mahogany Princess Hair Butter was created for young girls with natural hair. As a believer in self love, it’s important for me to show women and young girls how to love and care for their natural tresses naturally. This butter is great for twists, sets, puffs and overall moisture and sheen. With its fruity fragrance, your princess will immediately fall in love with it.

Ingredients
Shea Butter, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado butter, Sunflower oil, Olive Oil

I love how this butter is simple and all natural. I can’t stress enough that the products that always and consistently give me the best results a.k.a. good hair days lol ALWAYS come from products with the purest and most natural ingredients…this definitely delivered! I was pleasantly surprised! This product reminded me a lot of my all-time fav butter, the Gud Stuff. They have similar ingredients too which made me happy and even have a similar consistency and color. It’s really smooth and buttery when you apply :o)

I used this for my twists AAAAAND I was able to seal my ends with it! That cut the time it took to do my hair down since I didn’t have to keep reaching for an additional jar. It made my ends and my hair buttery soft. I really loved the results! I didn’t have to reapply throughout the week, just spritzed and re-twisted at night twice that week. It gave me nice definition like a heavier butter would but it isn’t heavy when applied and kept the moisture sealed in my hair all week. The scent is light and pleasant. I am not 100% sure if it has fragrance added but I am pretty sure it does.

One thing in the ingredients that stood out the most to me was the sunflower oil. I have never used sunflower oil by itself and I don’t think any of the products I have contain it so I had to jump on Google lol I do remember awhile back my neighbor and fellow hair blogger, Fleurtzy of Texture Playground, mentioning that she bought some sunflower oil to detangle her hair and come to find out, it is very emollient which softens and lubricates the hair. It also is really good for sealing in moisture (no wonder I didn’t have to reapply and it sealed my ends!).

Check out the results! Here’s my hair the morning after I initially twisted. Went for a zig zag center part.

***SIDEBAR– I did another henna treatment the night before I took these pics lol I know, I know, it didn’t take long for me to be hooked lmao! But I say that because I added turmeric (yup, the yellow spice in curry and mustard) to the henna because I researched that it makes the color more golden (you can see a golden tinge at my roots). Not sure if it really made much of a difference for me as far as my hair color goes. I was just experimenting :o) I love using turmeric on my face though! I’ve been using it to help fade acne scars and it has been working! But yea, check out the shine in my hair which I can definitely attribute to the henna!Mahogany_queen_princess_butter2 Mahogany_queen_princess_butter3Mahogany_queen_princess_butter4

Here’s my 2nd day hair. I didn’t re-twist, just slept with a scarf tied loosely around my hair. You can see the turmeric color well in my scalp. It will fade eventually, especially after my next wash. It’s not that bright in person, the flash is making to stand out like that in the pic :o) Regardless, the Princess butter kept my hair looking nice the entire week!Mahogany_queen_princess_butter5Mahogany_queen_princess_butter6 Mahogany_queen_princess_butter7

Ashley, you’ve got a nice product! Keep it up and we’ll be looking forward to seeing more from your up and coming business venture! :o)

Introduction : : Do share a little about yourself!

My name is Ashley Patrice, I am a student, cosmetologist, natural hair blogger and enthusiast. I also have an all-natural hair care line called Mahogany Queen that promotes healthy hair using the ingredients nature has already supplied us with. Showing black women how to maintain and grow healthy hair has become a job and lifestyle for me.

In the beginning : : What inspired you to go embrace your natural-ness? OR If you’ve been natural since forever, what inspired you to never get a perm?

I originally went natural because of my love for big hair and a bald spot I found in my hair because of over processing.  I decided enough was enough and started transitioning using weaves and trimming in between. Over time my love for big hair turned into a love for my hair and a special self love and appreciation of my natural self.

Mane-tain : : What is your weekly/monthly regimen like? If you have color in your hair, how do you maintain it’s health?

I prepoo with olive oil and coconut oil once a week and then follow up with a shampoo. I use whatever conditioner I have under my sink and detangle while in the shower using a wide tooth comb. After I get out of the shower I prep my hair for styling by applying coconut oil and my Mango Shea butter, after I section, detangle and twist using a denman brush to clump my curls, I wrap my hair up in a turban. I love hair color and although I’m taking a break from it, I still have some left on the ends. To prevent my hair from breaking, I make sure my hair is moisturized at all times.

Your uniqueness : : How would describe your hair and how do you like to wear/style your hair daily? i.e. wash-n-go’s, twists, straight, protective styles, etc.

My hair is the definition of kinky, coily, curly hair. I currently have one side of my hair shaved off and wear the other half in an up-do. This doubles as a protective style/signature look, and it works for me because it’s elegant, easy and simple.

Choosing favorites : : What are some fav products you can’t live without or would recommend to someone else? How do you use them?

A few products that I can’t live without would be my coconut oil for shine and my Mango Shea for moisture.

Drop some knowledge : : Do you have a marvelous hair practice/technique you’ve learned and wouldn’t mind sharing? OR is there something you’d like to learn more about?

For those of you who haven’t added the denman brush into your twistout regimen, DO SO! It is great for clumping curls together and giving great definition to twistouts. Also, trimming your hair regularly is a great way to keep your hair and styles looking fresh instead of frazzled

Shameless Plug : :  Do you have a hustle you’d like to share while you have the floor? i.e. business, project, etc.

My hair care line Mahogany Queen has received rave reviews from consumers and bloggers, I recently expanded my line to include a water-based gel for locs that won’t cause build up, a hair perfume to add fragrance to your tresses and moisture. I also created a hair butter targeted specifically for little girls. The Mahogany Princess line was created to give a fun spin on natural hair while helping young girls love their tresses just the way they are.

K.I.T. : : How can we stay connected with you? i.e. website, e-mail, social media, etc.
