I Take Biotin

I Take Biotin

I have taken biotin on and off for about 5 years but recently started taking it every day for the past couple of months. It is a nutritional supplement that has several benefits. It is super cheap and super accessible. I got this bottle from my local Targé (Target). I think it was like $7 bucks or somthin like that.

Biotin supports healthy hair and nails

There are so many products on the market that claim to promote hair growth and reduce hair loss. If you’ve ever read the ingredients in those products, biotin is one of the main ingredients. Biotin helps metabolize proteins and because hair and nails are composed of proteins, it makes sense that biotin can help in the creation and growth of hair and nails. If you have thinning or brittle hair, you may have a biotin deficiency. Biotin is also known to help prevent hair loss and grey hair.

Metabolizes carbs, fat and proteins into energy

I don’t really take biotin for this reason but hey, couldn’t hurt, might help. If you are trying to lose weight and exercise regularly, biotin can aid in converting fat and carbohydrates into energy thus increasing endurance. It also has been known to ease fatigue because your metabolic system will be more regular.

There are some other benefits of taking biotin but those are the main reasons I take it. For people who prefer to get their daily dose of biotin naturally from whole foods, here is a list of foods rich in biotin (as you’ll see, it’s mostly foods high in protein):

  • Green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli
  • Fish
  • Chicken
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Red meats (especially liver)

I am not taking biotin for miracle growth or anything like that but rather for the overall health of my hair. Health is what will make your hair grow. I have noticed that my hair has become a lot healthier in conjunction with a good regimen and taking time to treat my hair well. I don’t think taking biotin by itself will be the miracle to long, healthy hair, you have to take time to nurture it. It is only a supplement, therefore, it should supplement whatever else you are doing to take care of your hair :o)

New Natural Hair Studio in Silver Spring, MD!

New Natural Hair Studio in Silver Spring, MD!

Ladies of Montgomery County (and the surrounding DMV area!) I have exciting news for you!!

There’s a new natural hair salon in town!! N Natural Hair Studio!

I guess my excitement stems from being natural for years and not having any professionals to turn to for guidance on natural hair care. I’d go into an african-american catering hair salon and get those side-eye stares like “good luck with that!” Yea, wasn’t fun… anyway…. so you know how this whole “natural” thing recently in the past couple years became the latest and greatest (kinda sad since it’s been around since Adam and Eve in the garden…but hey today is the day). It’s definitely more main stream and more socially acceptable, making life for us long timers so much easier! I am so grateful for salon owners like Angela Walker! How ironic is this, her hair studio is literally on the same street I lived on when I was 1 year newly nappy back in ’06….timing is everything isn’t it lol

Oh and Miss Angela will be having a grand opening Saturday, April 7th (Easter weekend) from 11:00am until 8:00pm and it looks like there will be Giveaways, products for sale (yes!) and I’m sure lots of other naturals who share the same passion as us :o)  Check out this link for more information on the grand opening! You can also register to attend (I’ll be there!). Be sure to spread the word

I was able to find out more about the hair studio on Facebook and twitter, so check it out! I’m always down for the cause. Yayy for naturals!! lol :o)

— Will I see you the grand opening!?

Baltimore Natural Haircare Expo 2012

Baltimore Natural Haircare Expo 2012

So I stumbled upon this (what looks to be) awesome event and it’s just around the beltway! I am sure it will be an event bustling with naturals from around the DMV area and lots of vendors hehe. I may check it out to see what potential new hair treats I may find and at the very least, check out some styles other women are rocking. I desperately need to get more creative with my hair styling, I pretty much where my hair the same every day lol

It’s coming up this weekend (March 24-25) and tickets are $20 for one day and $30 for both days. I’ve never been to a natural hair event (just wasn’t that hard core about it) but I can’t imagine it being a waste of time *crosses fingers* so we’ll see….

Check out the flyer that can be found on the Expo’s site: http://www.baltimorenaturalhaircareexpo.com
