Growth : : Bee Mine Bee Sensitive Hair Serum & Mango Serum UPDATE

Hello! Awhile back I made a post announcing my unofficial campaign for hair growth (check out this post if you missed it) and I listed a few things I planned on trying out this year to see how much length I could gain. Although health should ALWAYS trump length goals, I feel that I am at the point where my hair is very healthy and I can focus on length. Length and health go hand in hand, if your hair and SCALP are healthy, your hair WILL grow!

So I wanted to use this post to introduce the next topical growth remedy as well as give an update to the last one. I started using Bee Mine’s Mango Sulfur Serum in the beginning of March and applied the serum to my scalp, focusing on my edges, about twice a week (any more frequent it would have been too oily for me). I can honestly say this stuff works! I didn’t do an extensive length check photo shoot like I did when I did my Viviscal update (end of February) too much work lol BUT I do have something I can show you hehe…ok don’t laugh…

I found this random grey hair in my edges lol that shows where the color from my last henna treatment ends lmao!! Hey whatever works! I have only done 2 henna treatments, I posted about my first one mid-february and I did the second treatment that following week which would make it around the last week of February. So the place where the henna color ends and the grey starts is the new growth from the end of February (which was around the start of me using the Mango serum…hopefully you followed all of that and I didn’t confuse you lol).

So I say all that to say, I gained about an INCH of growth in my edges since the end of February! I was actually extremely surprised because I wasn’t even sure if my edges would even continue to grow! I sort of wrote them off in the same category as the hair in my eyebrows—they just stop growing when they reach a certain length lol but I guess I was wrong! They grew! Are are still growing! Check out the EXTREME close-up shots of my grey hair! lmao! I think I am going to keep my grey hair so I can continue to see if my edges are still growing hehe

growth_check_lacocobella_april_2013 growth_check2_lacocobella_april_2013 growth_check3_lacocobella_april_2013

The Mango serum not only worked on my edges but it definitely worked on the rest of my scalp as well. I noticed I have a new layer of fine baby hairs all over my head, similar to the ones I posted about back in June 2012. That means, the serum stimulated the follicles where I may have had hair fallen out of or where “inactive” for lack of a better word. Either way, it’s doing something making something grow! I also noticed that my new growth is very soft and my curls seem a bit looser! I even noticed growth in my kitchen in the back i.e. the hairs at the nap of my neck lol THIS is amazing because now when I brush my hair up into a bun, I don’t have these random curls wanting to fall back down. They actually stay up and in place.

I will DEFINITELY keep this in my hair growth arsenal BUT I am going to put it down for a little while because…..I will be trying the non-oil version of Bee Mine’s growth serum! (yes, I know, the obsession with Bee Mine continues…)

It’s called the Bee Sensitive Oil Free Hair Serum which is basically and oil-free alternative to their original serum. I am extremely excited about this because it is difficult for me to use oils on my scalp during the warmer summer months because my scalp is naturally oily and I get a lot of build-up so this is PERFECT for me or anyone with similar issues. It was actually created for people with dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis It retails on Bee Mine’s site at $15 for 8 oz. and only comes in the mango scent (which is yummy and juicy smelling). The ingredients are amazing and are what’s most attractive to me but then again ALL Bee Mine’s ingredients are amazing, they are 99% All natural AND organic!! I also love that it is in a spray bottle which means easy application. Oh and read the reviews on the Bee Mine site, 5 star product, AGAIN!

Ingredients
Organic Aloe Vera Juice, Herbal Infused Purified Water, Ayurvedic Herbs, Select Herbs, MSM, Fragrance, Paraben & Formaldehyde Free Preservative. 99% Natural & Organic

Like all the other hair growth remedies I have tried so far, I am going to try this for one month without using anything else on my scalp so I can see how well this product works on it’s own. The main ingredient in the oil-free serum is aloe vera juice which is known to promote hair growth as it is a natural astringent. This also means it is perfect for oily scalps. It also contains my beloved ayurvedic herbs, I don’t know exactly which ones but they are all amazing either way. And last, it contains MSM which natural sulfur, the same thing in the other Mango serum. Sooooo it’s basically a bomb combination of hair growth greatness lol

I plan on using this each time I twist my hair, probably 2-3x a week and I will check back in with you all on this in about a month!!

Hair Milk : : Bee Mine Deja’s Hair Milk

Hair Milk : : Bee Mine Deja’s Hair Milk

Hey chicas!! I hope everyone had a blessed Resurrection Sunday and got to enjoy the day with their families! This resurrection this year really symbolizes a true New beginning, like a changing of the guards, I feel like there’s a LOT of activity in the spiritual realm going on and it’s like a build up of anticipation! Ah can’t wait for what’s in store!! :o)

Also, I feel like I am always apologizing for something lol but on Monday I suddenly came down with something, a cold/virus (going to the Dr.’s today), and still feel like crap so I haven’t been on my computer much, PLUS I still have been working on a TON of freelance graphic design jobs (thanks for all the new inquires I have gotten from my readers!!) ….oh and fitting in a full time job in between all that as well lol sooo again, SORRY for the lack of posts :o(

*******

So I have indulged in more products from my favorite brand, Bee Mine hehe. I really am addicted lol and this stuff really IS that good!! I have a bunch of other Bee Mine products just waiting to be used….yes, I know, it’s a problem, I didn’t mean it lightly when I said I LOVE Bee Mine lol #DontJudgeMe :o)

So here’s the Deja’s Hair Milk, which retails for $15 for 8 oz, $27 for 16 oz or the trial size of 2.2 oz for $5.50. Again, yes I know Bee Mine is in the higher price point category (along with Karen’s Body Beautiful, my other FAV brand) BUT you pay for what you get! AND Bee Mine boasts that their products are All Natural AND Organic! Most brands can’t claim that they are BOTH natural and organic, so you know you are getting the best you can possibly get for the health of your hair. It’s worth it, if you don’t believe me, read the reviews on their site for yourself! 5 star ratings for damn near every product! I’m so mad I never knew about Bee Mine until last year! #GoFigure

So I have the 8 oz Hair Milk in the Coconut Cream scent which is the same scent as the Bee-U-Ti-Ful Deep Conditioner. It smells soooooo lusciously yummy! Mmm mmmm mmm I love coconut so it’s so fitting lol If you aren’t a coconut fan, the Hair Milk also comes in an Island Mango scent and they also have a limited edition Sweetie Peach scent. I bet that one smells really yummy too!

Product Description
This hair milk has many benefits for the health and condition of your hair. It’s lightweight but very moisturizing. The oils and butters will nourish and naturally moisturize every strand of your tresses without leaving your hair greasy. The grapefruit essential oil strengthens and keeps your hair healthy while the peppermint essential oil helps to stimulate growth. Good for all hair types, braids and weaves too. We aim to help your hair be the healthiest it can be.
Use Deja’s Hair Milk to: defrizz, moisturize on damp hair, as a second day refresher, detangler or leave in.

Ingredients
Distilled water, Coconut milk, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Oil), Butyrosperumum Parkir (Shea Butter), Emulsifying wax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Butter), Vitis vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Ricinus communis (Organic Castor Oil), Grapefruit & Peppermint Essential Oils, Vitamin E, Panthenol (Vitamin B Complex), Optiphen (Paraben free and Formaldehyde free preservative), Fragrance. 99% Natural & Organic. Silicone-free / SLS-free / Paraben-free

So I haven’t really one to use Hair Milks, no particular reason, just never moved me. BUT when I saw Deja’s Hair Milk, and read the ingredients, my mind immediately thought Sweet Ambrosia! lol so I definitely had to try it. Plus everything from Bee Mine I’ve tried so far has never let me down :o) DHM has a super creamy, milky consistency and applies wet because it is water based which also means a longer drying time in comparison to a butter product. It is a bit thicker in consistency than the Sweet Ambrosia but doesn’t provide as much hold which is fine. It’s super lightweight, no where near greasy which means touchable hair :o)

The first time I used it, I used it by itself as I always do to see how my hair interacts with products with no other “product influences”. I applied on wet hair and it distributed really well, it also helped with the finger detangling process as I smoothed it through my strands. Did I mention the scent?! OMG Bee Mine’s signature Coconut Cream scent is sooooo yummy, I can’t get over it lol any who, so Deja’s Hair Milk does an AMAZING job at moisturizing my hair, so much to the point where I prefer to wear this under a thicker butter. I realize this because this product alone doesn’t give me much hold and I can just tell how my hair feels when its moisturized, it’s like my hair is more “plump” for lack of a better word lol it has a certain glimmer to it and is more elastic. So using a butter along with DHM helps seal in that moisture and give me more hold. The fact that DHM is lightweight is wonderful so using it under a butter won’t add to a lot of product build-up.

A little definitely goes a long way! DHM is great for when I am re-twisting my hair during the week because I don’t need to spritz my hair with water because the DHM does such a great job at moisturizing. I love that because it’s one less step and one less bottle I have to reach for when it’s time to do my hair (saves time!). DHM contains coconut milk AND coconut oil which is probably why I noticed my hair felt really elastic, over time, this means less breakage!

I’m excited to use this in conjunction with some of my other fav products, I feel like this will really help strengthen my hair so I eventually go Beyonce blonde lol!! :oP

Here’s my hair on the first day, freshly untwisted and the last two pics are on the 2nd day. By the next day, my hair was a bit on the poofy side, which is why DHM wouldn’t work as a styler product for me, I need to use this as a moisturizer in conjunction with a heavier butter to get the hold I prefer. It does make my hair super soft and super shiny!

Growth : : Bee Mine Mango Serum with Sulfur

Growth : : Bee Mine Mango Serum with Sulfur

I have been DYING to try this!! I got this about a month ago with my other Bee Mine goodies that were sent to me but I had been waiting to finish my Viviscal trial before I started using this. You know how hard it is to see this bottle every day and not use it!? Lol well the day has finally come :o)

It’s the Bee Mine Mango Serum with Sulfur. It’s a 100% natural and organic hair growth serum and retails on the Bee Mine website for $16 for an 8 oz bottle. It comes in Mango scent and also in the original Strawberry Kiwi Scent. You can also buy this from CurlMart but only in the Strawberry Kiwi scent. Bee Mine ALSO has this serum in a No Sulfur formula (for those with allergies to sulfur or with relaxers or other chemical services) as well as an Oil-Free spray formula which I think I will add to my “Hair Growth To Try” list. Bee Mine has a growth serum for everyone! Bee Mine even has all of their products in trial sizes! I love how Tracey, the owner, keeps the customer needs in mind. So you can buy the smaller size, see if you like it (which you most likely will), then buy the larger size! :o)

The serum is actually their signature product, the owner Tracey, began losing her hair awhile back due to health complications so she created her own remedy. She started off making it for family and friends which turned it into a business! I need to ***SIDEBAR again to rant about Tracey lol. I can’t say anything but amazing things about her because she is a BEAUTIFUL spirit, the light in her shines BRIGHT! She is SO helpful, SO kind, just an amazing being (I can only imagine what she’s’ like in person!). That alone makes me want to support her and her business, the fact that her products are AMAZING makes it that much better. She is a living testimony that when God has his hand on your efforts, you will succeed. Just check out the reviews on her site, she has so many and they are all 4 star or above (ALL the serums have 5 stars!). I am just in awe by her!! :o)

Product Description
This is one of the Original Serums if you are not allergic to sulfur or have any health problems this would be the one for you.  How to use:  Please perform a patch test prior to full use. Shake bottle prior to each time. Apply sparingly to scalp only a little goes a long way. Massage thoroughly throughout your scalp concentrating on the areas that need it the most. You will need to use a moisturizer on your hair after each use to make sure during the process any Serum didn’t get on your hair.

If you are doing any chemical service to your hair such as a perm, relaxer or dye job please stop using the Serum 7 days before the chemical service and shampoo prior to the service and wait 7 days after the service and shampoo before you start using the Serum again. Enjoy and use consistently for healthier stronger hair.

Ingredients
100% Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil, Select Ayurvedic Herbs, Sulfur Powder, Essential Oils, Fragrance (Phthalates Free) & Vitamin E Tocopherol Oil.

The serum looks and feels like a regular oil (since it is oil based) and has a juicy mango fragrance added. I will admit that it does have a slight sulfur scent but you can’t smell it after you’ve had it in your hair for awhile. It is nothing intolerable or overbearing. It is meant to only be applied to the scalp and it’s also recommended that you moisturize the strands of your hair after because sulfur may be drying for some people but some even say the serum makes their new growth really soft and manageable! So i guess you will have to pay attention to how your hair responds best to it.

The bottle has a little flip nozzle at the top which makes it easy to apply somewhat, I still think I may pour it in a needle point applicator bottle to make it even easier and give me bit more precision. It is not a thick oil so a little goes A LONG way! I made a mistake my first use and went a bit over board and had an oily forehead, neck and ears lol!! definitely user error and I also forgot that your head warms up the oil which was why it traveled down from my scalp. I will now just use a few drops in each section lol Oh and I will be applying this 2-3 times a week—basically the same time I re-twist my hair up at night. You can use this daily but my scalp naturally gets oily and I have to wash my hair once a week.

I have never used a product with sulfur so I was really intrigued by it, especially since I have yet to see someone say it did not work for them (unless of course they were allergic to it which is why you should definitely do a patch test first!) and NO this is not the same sulfur in the Sulfur 8 hair grease from back in the day lol. The kind of sulfur in the Bee Mine Serum is great for hair growth because it enhances your natural growth when it is used in conjunction with a carrier oil, which in this case is the coconut oil, grapeseed and sweet almond oils. I believe this sulfur is methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) which is an organic sulfur that actually occurs naturally in the body! (who knew!) It helps grow bone, hair, nails, tissues with keratin base, so it makes sense that this would help grow hair!

I also REALLY love that this serum contains ayurvedic herbs and essential oils which have ALL helped contribute to hair growth for me already so I am hoping the sulfur gives my hair and even large boost!

So there you have it, my intro to the Bee Mine Hair Growth Serum! I will report back on my results in about a month and let you know how it works! In the mean time, go to Bee Mine’s online store and check out the reviews! If anyone wants to join in on this challenge me go for it and let me know! :o)

Butter :: Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter

Butter :: Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter

Hey!!

Today’s post is another phenomenal product from one of newest favorite product lines, Bee Mine! I recently discovered this brand and fell in love as soon as I tried the Bee-U-Ti-Full Moisturizing Deep Conditioner. And now I would like to share my experience with the Bee Hold Curly Butter that I was sent along with my other Bee Mine goodies. It’s a shea and aloe based butter that gives incredible hold and shine!

The Bee Hold Curly butter (isn’t that a cute name!?) is sold on Bee Mine’s website in 3 different sizes which is cool, I like having options :o) So you can buy the small size if you’re afraid of commitment (even though it’s worth it!) or the large size if you’re a fan! The sizes are 2 oz for $4.50, 8 oz for $13.97 or 16oz $23.00. You can also buy the 8 oz size on CurlMart for $13.97. Oh and it also comes in different scents!! (you know I love that lol). I was given the Coconut Cream, which is de-licious, but it also comes in Island Mango and unscented for those with sensitive noseys.

One thing I really like/appreciate about Bee Mine’s packaging (besides the really cute artwork! hehe) is that the tubs come sealed with a thin, protective film so you don’t have to worry about anything leaking in transit. I thought that was a really nice idea as far as packaging goes. It’s the little things that make me happy lol :o)

bee_mine_Bee_hold_curly_butter1 bee_mine_Bee_hold_curly_butter bee_mine_Bee_hold_curly_butter2

Product Description
This shea butter and aloe based curly butter is packed with rich moisturizing nutrients to give you long lasting moisture and promote growth. It has a soft touchable hold that will help to defrizz your frizzes and give great definition. This Curly Butter is wonderful for twists, finger curls, puffs/pony tails and especially for laying down unruly hair. Great for naturals, relaxed, texlaxed, everyone.

Ingredients
100% Shea Butter, 100% Aloe Vera Gel, Essential Oil Blend, Vegetable Glycerin, Rosemary Leaf and Chamomile Extract, Silk Powder, Paraben & Formaldehyde Free Preservative and Perfume.

It’s interesting that this is called a butter because it actually has the consistency of a pudding and applies wet. I guess when I think of butter, I think more of….well a butter! lol but shea butter is listed as the first ingredient so it technically is a butter! My FAV thing about the Bee Hold is that it contains a high content of aloa vera gel. I have found that my hair responds REALLY well to products that contain aloe vera. Aloe vera gives me INCREDIBLE hold and SHINE! Some of my newer readers may not have seen this, but if you haven’t, check out my post when I used just straight, pure aloe gel (the kind you can ingest). I LOVED how my hair looked…even though I learned I needed to mix it with some type of butter or oil so my hair wouldn’t feel so dry….either way, the point I’m trying to make is AV makes my hair super shiny and super defined! Aloe overall is really good for the hair as it’s a humectant AND it’s good for your scalp! It actually aids in promoting growth since it has astringent properties. I apply pure AV gel to my scalp during the hot summer months. I keep the AV gel in the refrigerator and it feels so soothing and cooling. Try it out if you have some in your fridge :o) So with that said, you can apply the Bee Hold butter to your scalp as well.

This product definitely lives up to its name! I used this for my usual twist-out and I had curl definition for days…literally! I was able to get really nice 2nd day and 3rd day hair with this stuff! My hair felt really soft and not dry at all (referring back to my AV gel experience I just mentioned). It didn’t leave a residue, my hair didn’t feel weighted down and it kept frizz at bay. It’s like my hair cuticle was really smoothed down. I can’t get over the shine!

I noticed the Bee Hold Butter contains silk powder and I don’t think I’ve ever used anything with silk powder so I was like hmmm let me do some Googling lol So silk powder is known to provide moisture balance, promote suppleness, shine and elasticity which all sounds great to me! I guess that, along with the AV, could be why my hair felt so soft and shiny! I love discovering different ingredients, I always stress to my readers, check the ingredients in products you KNOW work well in your hair and if you are trying to find new products, search for ones that contain the same ingredients. That way you will know what products will give you consistent results.

Here’s my fresh twists in the morning. Because this applies wet, make sure you allow yourself enough time for drying. I did this to ensure it was dry by the time I separated the twists. Check out the amazing shine! I was like daaaaaaaaang wear’s my sunglasses!? (I know, i’m such a cornball lol)

Deep Conditioner :: Bee Mine Bee-U-Ti-Ful Moisturizing Deep Conditioner

Deep Conditioner :: Bee Mine Bee-U-Ti-Ful Moisturizing Deep Conditioner

I finally found a non-homemade deep conditioner! lol

I have gotten so many questions about if I know of any good deep conditioners (with the exception of the Black Soap Purification Masque one from Shea Moisture) and I always just said I made my own because I haven’t come across one that’s “store” bought BUT I think I have found one!! It’s the Bee-U-Ti-Ful Moisturizing Deep Conditioner by Bee Mine Products Inc. This YUMMY deep conditioner comes in 2 sizes— 8 oz for $18.97 and 16 oz for $28.97. I have seen it on CurlMart for quite some time now and there are quite a few really positive reviews on it! It got 4.5 out of 5 stars as a matter of fact so it’s been tried and true so I am so happy I was able to get my hands on some. Just a little note, the labels on the products I was gifted are different than what you see on their website. I love the packaging! It’s so cute and I love how the brand uses the theme of the Bee all throughout their product descriptions, etc. I love marketing lol :o)

Bee_mine_beeutiful_deep_conditioner Bee_mine_beeutiful_deep_conditioner_2

***Sort of a Sidebar — Another thing about Bee Mine Products Inc. is the story of it’s inception, if you check out the about page, you’ll read that the owner suffered some serious health problems (and by the grace of GOD has bounced back!) and she began losing her hair due to the trauma. She refused to lose any more hair and decided to make her own products to help grow her hair back and thus came Bee Mine! Her story is inspiring because I suffered hair loss due to trauma as well to see how her experiences didn’t hold her back but only brought on success through a business which in turn can actually be viewed as a ministry—helping other women (and men!) maybe get through a challenging time in their life by making them feel better about how they at least look if they don’t feel so great on the inside. It’s the little things that may help in the BIGGEST way. She has a serious testimony and I really wanted to share that because it’s inspiring and I know it’s not always the easiest to be as open and candid as she was :o)

Product Description

We are pleased to announce the release of our BEE•U•Ti•FUL Moisturizing Deep Conditioner; our first protein-free deep conditioner that helps to detangle your hair and provide excellent manageability. This deep conditioner is made with creamy and emollient Cupuacu butter, to promote smooth and soft hair while boosting the rebirth of the hair’s natural moisture and elasticity. Highly beneficial for dry and damaged hair. BEE•U•Ti•FUL also provides some protection from damaging UV-A and UV-B rays and helps to restore shine and moisture to stressed hair.

Ingredients

Distilled water, Cetearyl Alcohol, BTMS (mild emulsifier), 100% Unrefined Shea Butter , 100% Organic Coconut Oil, Cupuacu Butter, Calendula Extract, Chamomile Extract, Organic Raw Honey, Paraben Free Preservative, Fragrance (Phthalate Free). Silicone – Free / SLS – Free / Paraben – Free / Protein Free

This DC is a medium thick cream and has the most delicious coconut scent (which you know I LOVE), it’s very sweet and seems to have a hint of vanilla. Mmmmm I love smelling sweet lol The best thing about this awesome DC is it is Very concentrated so I didn’t have to use much at all! I was pleasantly surprised because I always have to use quite a bit of product to cover all this hair but this distributed very well on wet hair. I know the price point is a bit high BUT I definitely think it is worth it because a) this is a DC so it’s not something I need to use every week; maybe 2x a month so it will last quite a while. b) DC’s are typically priced higher than regular conditioners.

I washed with my Ayurvedic herb shampoo bar from Chagrin Valley and applied the Bee-U-Ti-Ful on wet hair while in the shower. I put a plastic cap and used my thermal hair turban and left the DC in for about 40 mins. My hair was SO soft, moisturized. I love that it contains honey and coconut oil because those two ingredients always work well in my hair. This is a GREAT winter DC since the winter months on the East coast are so freakin dry ugh! But yes, my hair was quite easy to detangle, I didn’t need to use my Denman brush, I just finger combed and gently removed any snags. Oh and it’s protein free so for those of you with protein sensitivities …try it out! I know a lot of DC’s do contain protein because they are meant to be more of a treatment rather than a “daily” conditioner.

If you check out the ingrediants (you see how ALL-natural they are!), you’ll notice cupuacu butter and calendula extract. I am trying to “branch out” lol and try products that have butters and oils/extracts that I don’t always use i.e. shea and coconut lol so I was intrigued by the cupuacu and calendula. So the cupuacu butter helps restore elasticity and strengthen hair because it is high in essential fatty acids and it also gives some sun protection which is always good if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Calendula (which I have been hearing about lately for some reason lol) is antiseptic, anti fungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties so this DC would be beneficial for those of us with scalp issues. Calendula also improves elasticity, penetrates the core of the hair shaft to help restore Keratin levels which means less breakage! So overall this is a great deep conditioner and I will be adding it to my .essentials list!!

Check out the results! Here’s my hair wet after I rinsed out the DC:
