Here are a few of my fav natural hair brands that are offering Black Friday/Small Biz Saturday/Cyber Monday/Etc.sales! Now is your chance to try some products you’ve been eyeing and save a few dollars while you’re at it :o)
I’m in a #shameless plug mode right now AND I want to SHOW you why I haven’t been able to blog much lately!!!! :o))))
Another graphic design project I just finished up is for a fellow blogger and actress, Andrea Lewis! You may know her from the blog and YouTube dynamic duo, Those Girls Are Wild (check out their Youtube page!) Oh and she also was a regular on the show Degrassi from way back when. Well she is definitely doing the damn thing these days and is working on a new web series called Black Actresses! Not only is she starring in the series, she’s also co-producing it along with the creator of the YouTube web series phenom, Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae (which by the way, I JUST watched on YouTube this past month and I am in LOVE with the web series! I am so mad I just got put on to it but it is HILARIOUS if you haven’t checked it out yet!! It is a genius show!)
Anywho, I was excited to work with Andrea to design and get her personal blog site up and running! Check it out and keep an eye out for her, she’s about to do some big things!
It’s exactly 4 years since my mother suddenly passed away. I believe that everything happens at the exact moment for a certain purpose, my mom was meant to pass away on this very day, 2-1, four years ago. Her funeral was not actually held until 2-11…just as God had planned for it to be.
My mother’s name is Sharon, a Hebrew name that means “fertile plain” and in English means “warmth, beauty, comfort, and love” and even “princess”….everything that my mom embodied. If you study the bible, you’ll know that “A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.” (Ecc.7:1 NIV) …I always say how my mother’s death was what truly gave me life.
Death is not something that should be seen as sad. Mourning most definitely hurts, but if you really think about it, to die means to be with the Lord, who wouldn’t want that over this crazy world we live in?! I don’t know about you but I count it ALL JOY when I experience heartache and pain (took a LONG time to be able to see it that way) because I know its for a reason. Whatever God’s reason is, I know it’s always for me to GROW and to PROSPER me. It’s his will and nothing is greater than that, whether I understand why or not.
I know this all to be true when God revealed a special scripture to me during the time I was back home in California helping plan my mother’s funeral. It was one of the moments I felt God SO present in my life:
“I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.” ~ Song of Solomon 2:1 NIV
This is the first verse from the second chapter of Song of Solomon—2:1. The symbolism of a rose and the lily runs deep in the bible but it has a lot of personal meaning for me (plus I lived in the Southern California Valley my whole life lol 818!). I can go on and on…..but I adore this verse because I am the rose of my mother and she is my source of inspiration for being (becoming) who I am in Christ. :o) R.I.P. momma
This was the last picture taken of my mother (on the left) in January 2009 that I found on her personal camera. She was a flight attendant for United Airlines and this was on her last flight on her way back from Beijing, China.
I had no idea who the other woman was in this picture but I always knew she met celebrities and all that but she never cared to take pics with them but for some reason she did with this woman. She must have been talking her ear off during the flight :o) she was ALWAYS talking to someone!
So the only way I was able to find out who this woman was by zooming in really close to the gold medal around her neck thinking I could read what it said (I couldn’t) but I noticed right next the medal, on her shirt, I saw the letters “PARA” and it clicked….PARAlympics! So I took a chance and Googled “gold medel paralympic winners 2008” and I found a pic of a lady who looked like the woman standing next to my mom…it was Barbara Buchan, a Paralympic Gold medalist who won 2 gold medals in cycling during the 2008 Paralymics in Beijing :o)
The other week I posted a pic of the length of my hair as of January 2013. My growth was a SUPER shock to me because I rarely check the length of my hair and my shrinkage makes it difficult to tell. So my main focus for last year was to focus on the health and my SCALP to help re-grow in the hair that was falling out. I will of course ALWAYS focus on the health and scalp but I was so inspired by the length I had gained that I was hey! I really CAN grow my hair long! I was convinced that my hair reaches a certain length and then plateaus but I proved myself wrong lol
So I say all this to say, I am going to try and keep going! Who knows, maybe I can get my hair down to my WAIST! ***fingers crossed*** lol I really want to focus on growing out these annoying layers and really nourishing my edges and my center part/crown more than anything.
So I am preparing an arsenal for this challenge.Check out a working list of some things I plan to try/continue:
Viviscal — I’ll be posting a mini introductory post tomorrow
Bee Mine Mango Serum with Sulfer — I am going to start this after I finish one month of Viviscal; I’ll do an intro post when I start (check out the reviews on their website!! Excited!!)
Jamaican Black Castor Oil — I probably won’t start this for a couple months but I will put it on the list for now since a few of my readers suggested I try this; I’d mix this with my EO’s
Herbal Rinses — Never done these before so I need to see what its about! I was told to try catnip!!
ContinueDrinking Herbal Teas — A reader of mine suggested I infuse the teas in my spritzer mix so I will be doing this too! (thanks lady!!!!)
ContinueAyurvedic Treatments — (neem, brahmi, shikakai, amla and more! I want to try some new powders along with my ole faithfuls. On my “to try” list is bhringraj, hibiscus and I think I may give in and try henna……
Stimulating Brown Sugar Scalp Scrubs — added 1/29
If you know of any other remedies that really help with growth PLEASE post in the comments below!
As I find any other “Hair Growth” remedies I will be sure to share the wealth with you guys. Just remember, health is always first for me and then growth usually comes along after that! :o)
***PLEASE READ— I don’t know what it is but God has blessed La Coco Bella SO MUCH ALREADY this year! I told you 2013 is going to be a great year! Not just for my blog but all around, this is just a sliver of what is going to happen this year!! So far, I’ve received a slew of products to try out and share with my readers!! It was like the floodgates were opened for some reason. I’m really excited to share some of these awesome finds with you guys! It’s hard sticking to just one post a day lol
But the main thing I wanted to share is that I really want to express my deepestgratitude to the people/companies who have trusted me to share their products with an audience they may not have reached before and to introduce my readers to products/brands they may not have ever heard of before. I truly hope for a positive/successful pay off for ALL of us :o)
I want to again reiterate that I am NOT paid for ANY of the product experiences I post or associated with companies in any way. Blogging for me is in no way a self-seeking venture or about “getting free stuff”, etc. I sincerely want to share some of the great things I’ve discovered out there for our hair because I know how difficult and discouraging having natural hair can be at times…and if it helps a small business grow then that’s an added blessing and I am humbled to be a beacon to help make that happen! God always has a purpose for everything and I keep him in the center of all that I do so perhaps this is just part of his will (you know he’s a mysterious like that lol).
Any way, I know I don’t need to explain myself but I wanted to lol because in the next few months, you will see quite a few posts that mention I was given/gifted products and I don’t want you to pass any judgement :o(
Sooooo keep checking back for lots of product experiences!!!!! Thanks ladies (and gents if you’re out there!) :o)

Well, it’s 2013 and I am so excited to see what God has in store! Usually I don’t get all into the hype of “new beginnings” “resolutions” etc., etc. because it always ends up just “being another day, another year” lol I know, that sounds so pessimistic but honestly, these past few years have been the hardest of my life. It mostly started when I lost my mother in 2009 and I have been battling bouts of depression ever since then. I say that to say that 2012 was especially difficult, emotionally, financially, spiritually, everything-ally! Don’t get me wrong, I have had MANY great moments, lessons and experiences since, I am blessed and GRATEFUL, no doubt about that but the devil has been especially active in my life, which can only mean one thing…..BLESSINGS ARE AHEAD!
2012 was a year of trials that I know God meant for me to go through and I couldn’t do anything about it—I felt helpless. They say when you feel like you are helpless, help someone else and that’s exactly what it has been for me. Sooooo in turn, I found an outlet, La Coco Bella, and it definitely kept me going! Starting La Coco Bella this year has actually turned out to be a form of therapy that I was not expecting and I wanted to sincerely thank each and every one of my readers. There are times where I feel like I am writing to no one, and I have no idea who is reading my posts (except for those who have left comments or sent me emails of course!) but either way, just going through the motions of maintaining this blog has really helped me get through those tough days. Days where I felt hopeless, La Coco Bella gave me a sense of accountability and something to look forward to. My favorite part is just knowing that I am helping someone else feel good about them self in some way or form. I hope I am not sounding cliche but I sincerely mean it, I don’t really need this blog to help myself with my hair lol I do it to help others figure out their own and to learn something new. But God has purpose for all things so maybe he knew this would help me—natural hair….go figure lol
“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” ~ Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT
I am more excited about 2013 than any other year of my life. I have a deep feeling within my soul, that I know something GREAT WILL happen for me and my close loved ones this year. I just know it and am willing and ready to accept whatever it is God has in store.
Yes, I will still be blogging lol so don’t worry about that hehe I will always have a natural hair obsession haha. I may expand the horizon and include other topics on here, not sure, I haven’t thought it out yet (any ideas!?). Again, my sole purpose (for now) has been to help others figure out their natural hair and hope it makes them feel better about themselves inside—which has in turn helped me get through my life this past year. Oh the irony!
Any way, I’ve ranted enough….in summary lol, the purpose of this post is to SINCERELY THANK YOU for all the likes and follows on my Facebook, Twitter and most definitely Instagram! (<—-2012 was the year of Instagram lol) and more importantly, THANK YOU to each and every person reading this right now, for helping me keep my sanity and seeing this past year through.
Again, I am SO excited for 2013 and I pray God blesses my endeavor with La Coco Bella and turns it into something even greater. I want to be able to do more for my readers because you all have done something so great for me :o)
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year’s :o)
