It’s like buttah baybay!
It really is lol I think I really love this stuff. First let me say, my linesister (hey Fe!) put me on to Oyin Handmade products. I had heard so many great things about this brand ( located in Maryland hehe) so I had to join the hype and see for myself. I bought the Whipped Pudding along with the Sugar Berries Pomade from CurlMart a few weeks ago. *Sidebar* I like to use a product for a week before I go ahead and judge whether I like it or not but I had some mixed feelings about this when I first used it but I think I have it figured out now…
(here are the ingredients by the way)
purified water, shea butter, organic aloe vera gel, cocoa butter, castor oil, coconut oil, sweet almond & olive oils, vegetable emulsifier, beeswax, palm stearic acid, vegetable glycerine, honey, optiphen (preservative), fragrance. Preserved with a paraben-free, wide-spectrum cosmetic preservative
So I used it as my moisturizer for a twist-out on my wash day (I always use one product as my moisturizer on wash days. This is what I use to “set” my hair for the week). I applied it to damp hair and man, the consistency felt soooo weird on my hair. I don’t know what it was but I just did not like how it felt when I was applying it to my hair! I think it had to do with the incredibly fluffy consistency mixed with water; it made my hair feel “squeaky” (if that makes any kind of sense). I mean this stuff is like super whipped (made me wanna take a bite of it and the chocolate vanilla scent made it harder to resist lol). I’m not saying I don’t like the consistency of the actual product (I actually love the fluffy feeling in my hands) I just didn’t like how it felt on wet hair.I don’t know, maybe I’m just trippin’ and am used to products with more slip. I’ve never used anything whipped before so it was a bit foreign to me, it was just….weird lol.
Despite the funny feelings, I went ahead and finished twisting my freshly washed hair for the night (and sealing my ends with the Sugar Berries) and figured I’d wait until the morning to really see what this stuff did for my hair.
And then the next day came…
My my, this stuff shocked the heck out of me! I think I had the best First Day hair of my life. I mean, my hair was light, fluffy, frizz-free, moisturized and bouncy curls defined! Usually I despise First Day hair, my hair tends to feel weighted down, my fro isn’t as fluffy as I’d like it to be, it’s just blah. But THIS changed the game lol. This stuff gave great hold to my curls even after I just put a bonnet over it and slept on it for Second day Hair!
And wait, it gets better…
Second Third Day hair (technically the next time I re-twisted my hair. Washed/twisted on Sunday night, slept on it Monday night and re-twisted on Tuesday night…)…on point!! My hair was super light, big, defined, I just really really liked it. I think what did the trick was that I re-twisted and applied a little more of the Whipped Pudding on DRY hair. Twisting on dry hair creates more body and volume, it didn’t feel so “weird” when I was applying it lol. It kind of just melted into my hair. Loved it.
(yea don’t mind the crazy colors, I had no idea my head looked like a chameleon until I used the flash.
THIS is why I don’t need to dye my hair on my own lol)
So overall, I will definitely use this regularly (I’ll get over the funky wet whipped feeling lol). This is my first whipped hair product so I’d like to try other brands before I deem this as a “staple” product!
—What are your thoughts, are you whipped?!
